Cross Section of the Head

This is another drawing from that anatomical atlas I described earlier. I actually composited this from the three or four cross-sectioned heads that were kept in storage in the cold room at Santa Monica College. Different structures were more or less visible and "shapely" in each head, so I just used the best of each to produce the final image.

It's Science Day! It's Science Day!  This is fantastic--it really demonstrates the complexity of the skull anatomy.  There was a traveling exhibit of real anatomical sections etc. that I heard about but never had the chance to see.  A friend in Chicago saw it at the Museum of Science and Industry and said it was simply incredible.  I'll have to ask her what it was called, as there may be a book that accompanied the exhibit.

Kisu - Yay! Science day! I love your skull - I'll go over there and write a comment to that effect. Are you thinking of the BodyWorlds exhibits? I saw two of them in LA. I didn't like them all that much - plowed right over the line from informative to tacky and exploitative.

Thank you, Valia and Kostadin.

Maybe that was it (Body Worlds), I don't know for sure.  My friend made it sound like it was informative, but as I've never seen anything of it in person or in print, I can't say.  If it was poorly done, that would be very sad!

Wow.  Interesting!  You obviously work from life for your nudes, but where do you get your resource material for such anatomical studies?  I love the detail.
