Some fourty years ago my mom had two paintings my brother loved. I think they were lost when they moved in 1960. I recreated the first for him out of memory. Think I got it close. Working on the second. Thought they would make a nice Xmas gift for him as our parents are now gone.      Hope you all enjoy them as did our family.

I love images of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and this is a very warm and charming depiction!  It's wonderful as is, but she is often shown with little gold stars on her blue robe.   You should check out the work of the santeros of the Southwest, who paint and carve all kinds of saints and deities, including Guadalupe.

Kisu  ..  Thanks for the comment. and history lesson.  You must have done a lot better than I in art history class. I'm sure this is a major distortion of the original and it most likely had stars on the robe and a number of other color and form changes. I will check the santaros works.

Margo  ..  Thanks.

Gene, I'm a failry recent student of this sort of thing, since we moved here.  I've acquired several books on santero art and Guadalupe imagery over the past year, and it was a fascinating new subject for me, as art of the American Southwest  was never covered in any art history classes I took--too regional, I suspect-?  Or maybe it's just really coming into its own, since there has been a gradual revival of traditional Hispanic arts over the past 30 years, and it's HOTHOTHOT right now!
