After I paintd the huge flames of the fire, I went back the next day to see what was left.  It was still burning and the tree trunks were essentially still there but were a ghostly white.

Kathryn, what unusual and interesting subject matter. I love how you kept the edges soft everywhere in the painting except for the center of interest: the heap of smoldering logs.

Lili--  Actually, I changed this painting after I took this photo.  I'll try to upload the final version.  I eliminated almost all of the leaves on the trees to the left of the fire because I thought it was a distraction.  The trees are actually quite tall, and the leaves would not have been in the frame, but more important is the visual distraction.  Now the viewer is lead right to the smoldering ashes.
