"Yesterday"

Oil on canvas, 3" deep, 24" x 24" gallery wrap canvas, live model/photography combination. This is one of a series of 5/6 paintings for a gallery. The series is based on the emotions of women. More will follow. I have the most interesting model, don't you think? She is not only fascinating, she is the best and most complient model. I hire her privately for studio work.

By the way - critiques are welcome!  Brave souls live in color!

Sarah,

First a funny story... At the beginning of the last century a millionaire fired his secretary, and the poor man asked him: "Why I am fired, I never stopped working?!", "That's why", responded the boss, "When do you think?".

I am saying this, dear Sarah, because you worked very hard on Yesterday, and everybody can see that, but before working, you did Think. And that's why your subject is so perfectly painted, and... your beautiful woman is Thinking. I really admire that many of your subjects are Thinkers, "A Tribute" for example. Maybe we can stop here from the life's marathon and share a thought about Yesterday?

Valia, your words are so beautiful. Tha last sentence particularly makes me reflect - yes, think!  Thank you, thank you.  I will stop life's marathon and enjoy the moment.

You are a dear and sensitive person. I appreciate You.

Very lovely!  So well done.  The mouth at that angle is so difficult and you did a wonderful job.

Thank you Krystal. I appreciate those words - coming from a fabulous painter such as you ... wow!

Sarah -

Really nice work! I haven't been on this forum long enough, or checking regularly enough, to have seen your work before. Really nicely done, and I agree with the others - it seems to show the benefits of a very carefully planned composition. It doesn't look carefully planned, it looks just right, naturally right; and that's the part that takes the planning.

Daniel, those are such nice comments - thank you, thank you. You are right about the composition - much agony there!  I appreciate you noticing that, as I did spend a great deal of time on that part!  Putting the painting on a square canvas was a risk too, but with the crossed arms and highly angular head/upper arms, I was hoping it would work.

Thank You Again, Sarah

Beautiful portrait and excellent craftmanship. You did an excellent job on capturing the mood and gesture of the model.

Congratulations!!!

Sarah I really regret and at the same time find it fortunate that I  manage to see your works ONLY NOW..AND FINALLY even if my comment may seem a bit more recent than others...your works are indeed manifestation of your persevering hardwork and magnanimity of heart....I just love the way you compose your portraits...and it has captured the mood of your model and the heart of your viewers...that in itself then shows that your paintings are successfully executed....

Ole!!  Hope to see more of your works and learn from it!!
