10" x 8" - oil on linen glued to board.

I started this portrait from life, and finished it in my studio. You can view the entire process in my latest newsletter: http://www.annas-blank-canvas.com/newsletter/090709/

This is really well done it reminds me of Norman Rockwell paintings, the contrast between the shadow and light is great

Anna-Rose,

I've seen the entire process in your newsletter, and was attracted by the courage, you did build up the underpainting - great work. Your father in low has unusual sense of humor, and you did paint it marvelously - any  relations with Salvador Dali?

Beautifully executed. The head has a solid feel and our eyes go right to his smiling eyes and not his teeth. Shows great skill.

The portraiture you know is outstanding. Everyone should appreciate the delicate nature of working this exacting on an 8x10 image. If I were to say anything that would be constructive I would ask you to consider the design of the page. In my opinion this would be an even stronger image if more consideration was given to composition. You can still keep the background subordinate while doing more with it compositionally. The primary objects relationship to the picture plane, if it were more dynamic, would only accentuate what is already a visually engaging image.
