watercolour on paper, 20"x32"
Aflred your work it just amazing
I love the saturation here
I'm not sure what I think about the centre of the painting - it's an unusual composition not to join the stems
Was this on purpose?
Hi Catherine,
I took up Chinese watercolour painting after my trip to China and in chinese painting, the empty space is an important part of the painting: to let the viewer to competed the painting with their own imagination. In this painting I was trying to combined the Western and Chinese style of paintings.

I have a real mix of emotion on this painting. The thing that grabs me is the complete abstract working against the strick control of the flowers. I eat that kind of thing up. What I don't like is that the abstract center is in the center, like Catherine said. I think it should have been placed off center. The other thing that bothers me is the whites in opposite corners. Not only does the opposite thing bother me but I think they are exist points for the eye.
Having said all that, I would definitely hang it in my home. That's as high a compliment as I have.
