Quiet Celebration

4 manager's special sunflowers for $1.00,  some things from my yard in a vase that I still don't know the color of. Started Oct. 13th and finished Oct. 21st.  Not perfect but that's not the point here. I actually put together something myself, used my good 140 lb. cold press Fabriano watercolor paper 9x12 and pressed on each morning even though a few times I was ready to once again call a picture a failure.  Very little damage control in this one as I'm finally understanding how to put down a background wash. I'm actually excited about setting up an inside still life now.

This is very nice.  The flowers look great.  The pot needs some more color maybe?

Thank you Alexandra and Charlie! Yes I almost went back in a couple of times to give the pot/vase some color but I don't want to use a glaze color that might give more intensity to the overall picture.  I'm still mauling it over though.

Charlie, I had to think  a little bit about why I haven't gone ahead and added color to the vase. The only energy I want to present is what's left in the remaining petals of the sunflowers. The leaves, poppy plant pods are less moist so they wouldn't have as much relective "life color' in them. If I gave the pot/vase more color I'm afraid it might add energy I want reserved for the sunflower petals. Does that make sense? I know what I'm feeling but it's hard to put it into the right words.

I see what you are saying.  In that case I would not touch the vase.
