Not Buddy!

Watercolor on a 4x6 inch Canson watercolor block.

A coworker wanted me to try to do a watercolor of her little gray/beige/white/silver dog Buddy on a watercolor block that belonged to her deceased father.  I said I would give it a whirl. She emailed me the pictures of him and I started in but about 3/4 of the way into it my daughter walked in and said " cute picture of Stella, why is her hair that color?". I realized that I had used my little dog Stella's eyes on her little dogs face!  Maybe it was my left brain taking over. She had given me all of her father's watercolor art supplies after he died so maybe it was the pressure to get it right.

Very nice watercolor.  The eyes are great, looking right at you.

Thank you Charlie. I'm not much of an animal painter but I do a lot of my little dog. I don't know how to do hair of any kind yet so I just call it 'abstract" hair.

I have the same problem.  I will have to remember the  'abstract" hair.

I pull the "well it's my first try at abstract" line for lots of my work. I found it's a quick way get rid of that tense moment when you hand someone something you've painted and you realize they are trying to find something nice to say. lol
