This watercolor shows a small section of the Taos Pueblo in New Mexico. It shows a brightly painted door and the wooden steps leading up to the entrance. Members of the Pueblo have lived in these traditional multi-storied adobe structures, year round, for hundreds of years. I worked from photos I took while visiting the area. Adobe is built from the earth and is very sculptural in nature. I was fascinated by the way the shadows and the reflected light off the adobe walls. Some of the texture in my painting is small amounts of acrylic molding paste applied with a pallet knife before I started painting. Otherwise this painting was done entirely using transparent watercolors. This painting is on a a half sheet of Arches rough. The image is about 21 x 13. I painted this painting in a workshop I was taking in Albuquerque - so, I can't enter it into a competition since there was instruction.
