this is my daughter who lost her eye due to cancer.  She has been sick for over three years. The doctors told us she is terminal because they can not kill the cancer cells in her eye socket.  She has been thru many treatments to no avail.  she lost an eye she could see out of and we have gone 8 months clear.  Her cancer is activated by trauma if she bumps her head it becames a tumor in 2 wks so far with the help of a face mask she hasnt bumped in 8 months

this painting is my first in acrylic it symbolizes that though she looks healthy the cancer is with her at all times. like the ghostly outline of her when she was sick by the doorway.

does anyone else get it or suggestions on how to convay the message would be appreciated

thks

That's heartbreaking. How aweful for you and your family. How brave she must be! I think you covey your message strongly. Without the back story a viewer would see the girl with a smile but know something isn't right by the haunting figure in the background and the gap in her eye. It's bittersweet. There is much pain yet joy in being the the presence of a wonderful person. You show that the figure is always there though it does not define who she is. It is small compared to her wide smile which I'm sure define who she is more clearly.   My prayers go out to you and your family. Keep painting as it is a great tool to express the range of emotions I'm sure you must be feeling.
