12" x 24"  oil on canvas

Tried a new oil painting medium, Megilp, on this one and I really love that stuff!

I found Meglip too sticky....I am using walnut oil which I really like...lots of movemnet in this piece...I can almost hear the fluttering sound

Thanks, cholzschuh!  I've been running the gamut of mediums, starting with water soluble stand oil, water soluble linseed and safflower oils, water soluble oil painting medium, mineral spirits, and now the Megilp.  For me it provides the ability to drawout a brush stroke smoothly and evenly, which is mainly what I was looking for.  It does dry a little on the glossy side (a problem but not as shiny as the others stuff I've tried), but I'll put up with that to be able to do the kind of brushwork I've been yearning to do.  It seems to facilitate a more 'calligraphic' brush stroke, like the dark underside of the front flapping bird above.

beautiful movement in the composition and the paint has a nice flow. Finding the right medium is always a challenge.

Thank you, Celia!  I'm beginning to think that the right medium is key.  If you feel like you're fighting the materials it has to show in the toolmarks.  Fortunately we have such a variety of mediums to choose from that there is something to fit everyone's needs and style.
