Pointellism on top of transparent watercolor
I like the painting, but I'm not a fan of pointellism. I had a brother in law who was a "stipple artist." I think he spent his whole life doing 4 large paintings!!!
Jeez Jan! And you said the "Study in Red, Number Six" canvas was enough to make you go cross eyed! This seems like a lot of work. I like the color!
Actually Richard, your paintings are much like pointillism as well, just larger dots. To each his own, it was fun doing it. Dale, I don't remember what you are talking about!
OOPS! Sorry about the miss quote Jan. You weren't the commenter who said they'd go cross-eyed doing all the detailed work. Your comment was:"Great painting, Looks like a lot of work done in colored pencil!" Nevertheless, this pointillism looks like a lot of work too. I'm glad it was fun doing.
It is a fun painting and I like it - I do however like the larger dot approach. Love the colors - it's just to my eyes the little dots get in the way and blur the scene. That said - very good work Jan.
Jan , color nut that I am I have always enjoyed the pointillists for their ability to set up"overtones" of new colors by optically mixing them in the veiwers eyes. This work is a departure for you and there are some color notes in the work which are very effective (note the blues and greens on the right side of the work. Thanks too Jan for the continued supportive comments regarding my work (actually all of you guys are very supportive) - I do appreciate it. I seem to be the slowest producer in the group though. I seem to generate more flops than viable works which is one of the costs of risk taking for me.
Enjoy, Michael
Thank you Michael, I saw many paintings by pointellist artists in Paris last year at the D'orsey museum. My painting is incorporating their technique over a previously painted watercolor. It was a challenge to see which colors worked. I appreciate your comments, yes it was a lot of work, but enjoyable. That's one of the things that keeps me alive. I will do more.
