Phillippe by Sharon Repple 12 x 12 acrylic   My niece is a fantastic photographer and when she isn't  working at her day job she is taking care of and photographing her many rescue animals.  This painting is from a photo of one of her favorite cats, Phillippe.   I'm enjoying painting a variety of subjects.

Kitty eyes, so sharp, so alert,

Something is in the air.

Body upright on it's perch,

On a sofa and not a chair,

So intense is Kitty's stare,

Love the colors, love your flair!

increíble, siento que en cualquier momento se levanta y va detrás de lo que está viendo

excellent work on the cats fur, Sharon! I love the light in the painting and the pattern on the sofa provides a nice backdrop. He looks like he's getting ready to jump at something the way cats do.

Sharon, very nice.  Just like a cat to sit on the top of the cuch and look out the window.  One of the most interesting animal painting compositions I have seen.

Thanks fellow artists for you special comments.  I have to give credit to my niece who took the reference photo for the lighting and strong contrasts between light and dark and the composition.  My job was to try and capture the light and paint the sofa as a believable object without copying the actual sofa pattern.  I used grays made from Alizarin crimson, Ultramarine blue, Indian Yellow and white for the undercoat of the fur.  Those same colors without the white were used for the darkest darks

Very nice, Sharon.

A beautiful composition of Autumnal tones.  A lot of appeal in the posture of the cat and the focus of it's  eye out of the frame.  Well done Sharon.

I'm so blessed by your comments.  When I did this painting, I did not realize that he had died.   I wanted you to see what my niece wrote about this painting on facebook, "This is my cat Phillippe and he passed away unexpectedly in Dec 2010. In his short life he had been shot and lost use of his back legs (until my sister rigged up a wheelchair for him to learn to walk again) and then later had all of his teeth removed due to a disease that affected his mouth. He was a great cat and I miss him terribly. Thank you Aunt Sharon - it looks just like him."
