18" x 24" oil on canvas
A young woman who was riding on a dancers' float during the recent 4th of July Fiestas Parade.
I'm a fan of detail in the young woman, Great job on this painting .
Great job!!!!!!
Thank you, Robert! The trickiest part was establishing the blacks/grays of the costume. I used an imprimatura of kind of an umber color, but found that it was giving too much of a golden color and then had to make it cooler in many areas. I keep looking at my books of favorite old and newer master artists for guidance on how blacks are handled and I found out only that everyone does blacks differently, and many individual artists even vary their treatment of black areas from painting to painting. So I guess that means there are no hard and fast rules, and the subject and mood dictate the treatment of any given painting.
Thank you, MakVady!
Thank you for viewing it, Tristan, and I have to say that I hope I inspire people to visit New Mexico! So maybe that makes me part artist and part state tourism ambassador ; )
as always, your works are a treat to the eyes.
