Quilting Generations

When considering entering an upcoming themed event (Patchwork of Our Past), the first thing that came to my mind was quilting.   Quilting has become a common way for American women to express creativity and artistic expression, passed down from one generation to the next.  It is through this support that I think of my mother and grandmother, and the thought of quilting generations came to mind.

When starting this painting, I imagined sitting on a comfortable couch (with good light), needle and thread in hand and forming the outside hemmed edging of a pieced patchwork quilt with my mother and daughter, perhaps using pieces of an old favorite blue dress...

Oil on 16x20" canvas.

Laura, I think the painting is very well executed, and I love the idea.  I belong to a group of sticthers and lacemakers.  I guess the subjects just look a little too posed  (all in the same position) for my taste..
