Another charcoal portrait I have finished recently. 25x19", used charcoal, charcoal pencils.
Great! Love the effect on the face itself.
LOve it!
Great work. Where have you been? Probably super busy with your work.
Very nice drawing.
Thank you all!
Margo, I have been busy in the studio and school year is coming to an end - so cleaning and packing things. But it's soon going to be time to relax, hopefully :)
Good design and super rendering.
Let’s start out with the fact that I don't go to this much effort to comment on someone’s work unless I am drawn to it for its strengths. Remembering this please consider the possibility that the vast majority of your image looks realistic but small parts look like abstracted shapes. The realism is strongest on the far side of the face, the lips area and the cap. The abstracted areas are most noteable at the far side of the neck, the ear and to some extent the near eye. For the most part there is a real illusion of depth but the ear and the far side of the neck seem flat, more like abstracted shapes. The lighting is dramatic making the image very graphic and visually appealing. There is also a nice variation in mark making. As for the background, although the values are properly placed to create a contrast it appears to me more could have been done with it. It could still contribute more and yet also function as a non-distracting supportive element. In other words I think the background could use some work. All that said it's still a very striking piece and I enjoy it.
