This painting was done just after a workshop in march with Greg Beecham. Using his photo reference, he had me trying to color harmonize by limiting my pallet to alizarin crimson, yellow ochre, and ultramarine blue. The colors that resulted were drastically different than what would have became of a full color pallet. Mr. Beecham was correct about the color harmonies and the knowledge you can learn by pushing only three colors to create what the brain can interpret as lifelike. If anyone can take a workshop from him I highly recommend it. He is a superior human being.

This is another watercolor of Cadillac Ranch just West of Amarillo, Texas. When we stopped by there in June, there was a field trip of young children, each with a can of spray paint, decorating the cars. Are we teaching our children right ? This watercolor is on a full sheet of 300 lb Arches rough.

I love the poppies that I grow in my backyard in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Each year, I shoot lots of photos in the few weeks that they are in bloom (Late May through early June). My new watercolor shows the glory of the interior of on of these wonderful flowers. It's painted with transparent watercolors on a full sheet of 300 lb Arches rough.

Bronze sculpture with photo insert which was the inspiration for the work.

This work was created from a block of wax softened to a malleable state then modeled quickly by hand into the desired form. It is a very different process from all my other sculpture pieces which were modeled by adding wax or clay one piece at a time.

A lonely shepherd....

Inspired by a photo I took it long time ago, back in my origin country in a beautiful mountain area.

The shepherd seemed to be so lonely and pensive but he feels good up there in the mountains surrounded by his sheep and the heights of the mountains.

I asked permission to photograph him and now I thought I could try to paint him.

Hand Study 6"x6"

This was a great exercise to get me back in to painting. It was offered as a DPW challenge by Claudia Hammer. I chose three values in different colors and a background color. I painted on a panel that I had previously painted on and sanded down. The colors were pretty dark originally so even with the sanding, it showed through and gave variation to the background which I blocked in first, thus removing the distraction. I started with the lightest light (Jaune Brilliant) then the darkest color in the hands (Alizarian Crimson) and then used Cadmium Orange for the mid-value. I mixed a bit to come up with the suggestion of the sleeve. I deliberately tried to keep it loose and simple.

Wife in Doorway

Day 12. I took 2 days off for Fathers Day....but I'm back on the paper. Today's sketch is a Blind Contour drawing of my wife standing in our bathroom doorway. Done in Charcoal.
