Michael Chesley Johnson is an award-winning oil and pastel painter working in the American Southwest, coastal Maine and the Canadian Maritimes. He specialises in teaching plein air workshops in oil and pastel. INTO THE ARCTIC Film Opening

Opening of the first film from my INTO THE ARCTIC project ( www.intothearctic.com ). Here's a short synopsis:

"Into the Arctic" is a compelling story about oil painter Cory Trepanier's first leg of his multi-year quest to explore and paint the dramatic wilderness of the Canadian Arctic. With his family, Cory journeys across Canada, trekking past the end of the road until reaching breathtaking canyons. With a tent for a home, they battle challenging weather as Cory captures the arctic landscape on canvas. Summer turns to fall as the artist explores and paints the arctic mountains of Ivvavik National Park.

Cory's artistic excursions engage the viewer, allowing us to experience this part of our planet in a moving way."

The film is now airing on several networks in Canada (in English and French), and, for those who might be interested, is also available on DVD at my online store ( www.trepanierstore.com ). The arctic is truly amazing; the camera only conveys a fraction of what the eye sees and that which one feels.
