    thanks! I tried with odorless mineral spirits and it didn't touch the varnish. thinking of just tossing the canvas! the barn was great but I needed to fix the green in the trees.. oh well, but appreciate your input!

    windsor and newton spray gloss. Is spray varnish the choice for artists or varnish brushed on? And, as a collector od 1800's antique oil paintings, I want to paint this way---is glazing with a darker glaze the answer to get this antique appearance? help!!!!!! ann
