while my friends in Putney were all painting in oil a couple of weeks ago, I decided to bring my watercolors. We painted a lovely model named Shannon. I was sitting in the back and couldn't really see the features of her face clearly, so I kept my painting simple. Since I'm working on an article...

Yes, Kathryn, the Chruch painting is on a toned surface. The examples I see of his works are oil on board. They were studies, but they don't seem like studies to me! My objective when I'm working on studies is to not get too caught up in worrying about how good they are; I just want to record...

Sometimes, when we put more time and thought into a painting, it can lose something. I plan to paint a larger version...

Yesterday, I walked around Jordan Pond. The two mountains at the end of the pond are called "The Bubbles" Besides resembling the female form, these hills look like twins. Whenever I've painted them, my goals is to treat one a bit differently than the next. Below, a photo I took yesterday...

How many of you out there do plein air watercolors? I have to say (and if you know me, I'm never brief) that I just love watercolor for painting studies when I travel. The supplies are light, no solvents, dries right away, and paper is so much easier to tote than canvas (for me) I don't necessarily...
