Hello! I'm new to this site and completely new/green to the world of oil pastels. I am not a visual artist but rather an environmental science/experiential outdoor educator and I adore wildlife ecology, the natural world, and impressionistic/naive style art. I recently came across a lovely book of wildlife photography by Thomas Marent entitled Rainforest and was struck by the richly saturated, vivid colors of the cloud forests/ rainforests of Costa Rica. I kept dreaming of these colors and so the book proved to be inspirational color-wise. I also was reading a biography on Van Gogh at around this time and decided to tip my (very, very amateur lol) hat to Starry Night via the swirls in one of these pieces.I just wanted to channel appreciation for the natural world creatively so I tried something new in the form of oil pastels. This site seems like a great place and there are many incredibly talented, experienced artists who I look forward to learning from.
