Very nice Bonnie. You are right about the grey background. I think it is a bit dark but passable the Edge of he glass could possibly need a small amount of highlight to hep separate it from the background. That can be done with a sharp pointed object or a colored pencil if you feel the need to add a highlight.
C and C always welcomed
Jen it looks like you have a very good start on your no drawing
Catherine your kingfisher does not look like a jay at all. I saw this in the gallery and thought it was a very nice drawing.
Marsha you have a nice drawing too. He mouth looks a little flat but other than that it is great I love the way you handled the pattern in her dress.
Hi Geri, I'm the person who called Catherine's kingfisher a blue jay by mistake (I had blue jays on the brain). It does indeed look like a kingfisher - a very besutiful one.

Here is my version of the kingfisher. As usual I screwed around in the foliage until it started to look like mud. I just can't leave well enough alone. It is WC on Stonebridge paper 5x7. Marsha is always using Stonebridge paper so I thought I would try it and it works very well . Well here it is for what its worth.
Geri this is really nice! I don't think the foilage looks bad at all and I really love all the textures and shading in the trunk/stump. I've never used Stonebridge water color paper but have used Farbriano 140lb. coldpress watercolor a lot and it's a really nice paper. I have a big sheet of Arches 140lb. rough watercolor paper that I haven't tried yet.
Bonnie your rose and glass looks really nice. I like the color of the leaves a lot and think the background isn't all that bad either.

Geri - I too like your Kingfisher. In my opinion, it looks like you made the bird the primary focus and let the foliage and background mute down to accentuate the Kingfisher.

Thank you Catherine, Kristen and Jen. It is not too bad of a painting but it has some value issues and some other problems that maybe only I can see but I am kind of proud of the stump.
It seems like I am on a bird kick lately. First it was owls than chicks, Blue Jays' King fisher and now Swans. This drawing is colored pencil on Mi tites paper 8 1/2 x 11. The photo is a little better than the actual drawing I hope you like it.
I love the reflections you've done! You've set the swans in perfectly and they are just the right size for the background area. This is really nice.
Geri your WC is well done The bird is good and the stump is great nobody but you is going to pay much attention to the BG
your swans really stand out nice reflections
