Hey guys I have never tried to draw anything in my 36 years on this planet till a about a week ago. I got into airbrushing and started trying. To sketch. Anyway this is what I come up with after a week of practice
about 4 weeks later my wife
And this week
And yesterday and what I am working on right now
Both are based off this photo of my very dear friend
I read something today about not using any hard lines just value so I drew a basic light out line and am trying to do this using just shades you can see I am working on her area from above these to her left breast right now it's tedious but very enjoyable
So anyway I could use any advice you guys can offer thanks
Mat
Very good. Better than I can do at this point in time. Yes, try to use value against value. Did your friend like the change in clothing in the first pic of her? lol

I've been drawing for about 58 years (since I could hold a pencil), and during the past 18 of them, have
concentrated on the figure. I start w/ very light, "searching" pencil strokes. Look at the figure more than
your sketchbook. You're really getting it with her face on your second-to-last drawing. I like the way you
seem to be searching out the larger shapes in her hair. Draw what you SEE rather than what you know,
and imagine her face as a sculpted form, receding back into the flat page. Study some books on figure drawing, and practice, practice, practice---carry your sketchbook EVERYWHERE Waiting rooms are the best! Keeps you busy and your subjects don't move much! Don't give up; if you really enjoy it, chances are you won't quit! Meelah
