I am looking for information on how to paint realistic looking pearls, gold, and jewels in my portraits. everytime i try googling it, it takes me to painting on jewelry!
Thanks for any help!
Shasta.....try looking on the internet for that information......When I was painting a pearl necklace I found a how-to article there....took a bit of practice, but I nailed it down. Am sure you will find info for gold and silver too.
I have studied, John Singer Sargent as one of my favorite portrait artist. Read all you can about him, you wont be disappointed. You can learn alot from his techniques. Signman

thanks for this information!
Sometimes those searches need to be sorted out, the information you needs may lying behind those searches that cam out. There might no specific result, but reading those can somehow help trace the path of your needs.
Anyway, are those custom made jewelry?

Signman, Do you have any references for Sargent - books, tapes, videos?
I would suggest getting/borrowing some of the jewelry you want to paint, and paint it from life - that way you are an original, painting an original! Be sure to light it in the same way as the rest of the painting.
