Welcome to ALL MEDIA PHOTO CHALLENGE #11
Challenge: Create artwork based on any or all of these photos. Use any medium and any style. Stick to the photo(s) exactly or just use them as a starting point - feel free to change colors, composition, add or subtract elements or take a complete departure. In other words, HAVE FUN and keep painting!
Target Posting Date: - August 23, 2011 – September 19, 2011
BE SURE TO POST YOUR WORK HERE IN THIS THREAD SO OUR CHALLENGES WON'T GET CONFUSED WITH EACH OTHER.
Another posting note: When you post your painting, be sure to “sign” your post with the name that you wish for participants to use when replying to your post. We are gaining new participants all the time and it is sometimes difficult to remember who posted what. An alternative would be to create a “signature line” that will automatically appear on each one of your posts. (If anyone needs instructions on how to do that, l let me know and I will send instructions to you.)
(To submit photos for these challenges, please start a "conversation" with me here on this forum and attach your photo or photos.)
Happy Painting!

Holly
C & C always welcomed and encouraged.
Love the ref pics, Holly! I think the Christmas card is an awesome idea! Thank you for thinking of it!
Could that boy be related to he Small One?Hmmmm....
I sure would like to be sitting and drawing on Susan's street!
Dave- you're a mean guy. I have an unfinished waterfall in oil sitting in the corner that's been there for 2 months. I love waterfalls, but have a bugger-of-a-time painting them.
...always love birds, however!
Can't wait to see what everyone does with these!
Joyce, I especially love watching how much your work is getting better and better by the day!
Cindy...last name Learn- C&C's always welcome.
Cindy - I would love to claim credit for the Christmas Card idea - but it was actually Sammy's idea. She sent me this photo months ago and I just saved it for a time closer to Christmas "preparation thinking time".
The boy is not related to the Small One - he is the son of a friend here in NC. Jen suggested doing more more human figures and sent me an adorable pic of herself at age 6 - which I will use later, but I thought this one might be a little easier, since it is mostly just a shilloette.
I am intrigued by waterfalls, too - and Dave actually sent me several waterfall photos - so watch out - - you may see some more!
I didn't get a chance to try Jen's "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" but I hope I will have time to try this hawk - he looks like he is surveying his kingdom!
Susan's street scene includes everything Jen hates! Florals, perspective, human forms, and even a few circles and elipses! I would love to be sitting in the sunshine on one of those benches right now! I think we should all be able to have fun with this one - even Jen - - we all know she will grumble and then do a splindid job with it!
C & C's always welcome
Okay I messed with this one today. I used a limited pallette that I was working from on WC. We did an eeny meeny miny mo thing and picked out a random 14 pastels. This was harder because I can't use my pencils and the photo had hardly any colour. The poor boy looks like a girl. Sorry to whoever I have insulted!
it is 9 x 6 Uart with my 14 pastels. I think I used all of them.
sorry it is a bit wonky!
Holly, nice reference photos with a good variety. It will be an interesting month.
Jen, you just jump right in there and get the job done pronto. You were wise to include at least one of each of the primary colors for your limited palette. I have struggled with the shore and showing the water washing up on the beach and I think that you did that very nicely with wonderful colors. Who cares if it's a male or female? It's just a figure which you did well.
Sam/Sammy C & C Welcome

Holly thanks for the new challenge pic's. You alway do a nice job of picking, I love the idea of Christmas in Aug./Sept. and I'm starting with the candles.....who know
Jen you have jumped right into the challenge good for you. Susan started something new last month with a challenge to everyone to have one done before the week end but I know I won't be able to do that so my challenge to you all is to have one ready for us to see before next Wednesday Aug. 31st. and that my friends is a lot of time look at Jen, she will be done with all the pictures at her fast pace.. Let's get this challenge up and running.....I'm looking forward to all your great works my artist friends...
Joyce
All C & C's always welcome
Bravo, Jen - for jumping right in! You had to make it more difficult with the limited pallette - but you did great with it. You definitely cannot tell from the photo, but this guy is very blond. He is 13 and has been blacksmithing with my husband's orgainization (The Foothills of the Carolinas Blacksmith Guild) since he was 11. He is an incredible young man - a totally awsome blacksmith (already has landed 2 private commission for his sculptures!) AND is an honors student, very involved in almost all sports and equally involved in his church youth group! We are proud to know him and his family!
Hey, Joyce - I think I can actually meet your challenge!!! WOO HOO - 2 weeks vacation starts when I get off work Sunday morning! Don't know where I will start, though. Probably with "Reflections" - same as Jen, but then I want to try to start on "Susan's Street Scene" - hope I can do it justice.
Nice job, Jen. I love the waves in the shoreline. And it recedes nicely. Your work always has such a musical quality.
I opted for the Christmas card to get started. I think I'll try the boy with my charcoals next. Nice to hear he's such a great kid and doing so well, Holly!
You guys amaze me. No sooner are the new reference photos posted, and you are producing artwork. Cindy, super job with the Christmas candles. I like the loose way you applied color to the shiny balls, especially the one on the left. I also like that you lightened the greenery. You did a good job on that, also. Did you paint the bg or was this done on black paper. What is the medium? I'm impressed!
Thank you, Sammy. This was WC on Strathmore 4x6 postcard. The black bg was tricky, but I think I pulled it off ok. Great idea to begin early!
How are your eyes doing? Hope all the swelling is gone. I think I will have to have the same thing done, eventually.
Holly, how is exciting this challenge is. First time I was able to log on since Monday, what a surprise. Cindy, I love your Christmas card and Jen your boy/girl by the water is very good also. I was anxious to start my street scene until I saw the Christmas scene, so its Christmas time for me tonight!
Wishing all of you a wonderful evening, I'm so thankful to be a part of this group. Susan
