Hi, my name is Jordan and at the age of 24 I've decided to take up painting. I've been having fun with it for a few months and feel I've made progress. I'm sort of nervous about posting my work on here as other members paintings I've seen are far better. In my defense, I have no experience in art other than the past 2 months of painting. I tried to draw earlier in life and failed miserably.
1. Realistic potential as far as my painting skills? I'm interested in taking classes.
2. Any critique/advice greatly appreciated
Hi
For someone who has not painted much it is a very good beginning, my advice is to just continue. The more painting you do, the better you will get.
Look at the shape and form of items and inhance the light and shade would be my suggestion to bring the composition foward. The good thing with acrylic is that you can make changes easily as the paint dries in moments. Best of luck
Thanks for the reply and the kind words :)
I realized that the original picture I posted suffered from a lot of glare on the top of the painting....here's a photo with better lighting.
Any comments are greatly appreciated
12x16 acrylic
24x36...sorry for the poor quality photos....any comments appreciated! Thanks!
I decided to add a window, which ended up turning into a mirror. The painting is interesting...lol. I'm sure I've broken all sorts of rules here but hey, I'm learning, I hope.
nice paintings made in this forums great to see this

Hi jrdn,
I am also a beginner. Your paintings are nice. The only thing I (as a beginner) could suggest is the background view in the mirror. Why do you chose the similar colors as the ones on the wall? Maybe you could paint something different to catch some depths in your painting. The painting could be more interesting.

All C & C's always welcome
I think you have a wonderful understanding of light and line. You have also demonstrated an enviable use of color. I believe you definitely have what it takes to be very successful!
Take heart, I took more than a couple of drawing courses and still can't draw a straight line. I have been painting for many years, however, and find that it doesn't limit me too much. Just do what makes you happy, and don't be afraid to take a class or two if you can find one.
Here's one of my most recent paintings. What do you think?

Thanks so much for the kind words I love your painting, I wish I could paint that neatly and with so much detail.
I've still been thinking about taking some classes and I've been drawing more recently, but I have painted some.
Here is one I did from an old pot I found around the house
You know what they say....You already have everything you need inside of you--in your case, you really do! You have natural talent that you should continue to nuture.
I've been painting for 30 years and continue to do so, in spite of a complete lack of appreciation from my audience. We paint because we are compelled to, so keep feeding your soul.
I love this...it is excellent.
I find it very interesting to look at. It stops me. "eye catching"? Which I think is important in art. Love your colour choices, the composition. It is pleasing to the eye and to my senses (emotions, if that makes sense.) I like how in the mirror you muted the colours, in the background, nice touch.
Keep painting...love to see with practice what you will come up with.
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
I've been messing around a little and am currently working on this portrait. I really need to get some formal instruction, but maybe I'm improving on my own
anyways, its 18x24" acrylic on canvas
