I'd like to request to the Administration that the "Star Ratings" be updated to somehow not only show the average ratings (as they do now when more than one person rates a painting differently), but to show how a particular individual chose a rating.
For example, if I rate a painting a 5 stars out of 5 (for a work I feel is excellent - and want to show my appreciation), and then leave a comment, then someone comes and rates the painting with a poor (1) star rating behind me, (and maybe doesn't leave a comment), then the star rating I left now appears to be average (3), which was not my intention.
It would be helpful if, when someone chooses a star rating, to show who (by user ID?) placed what rating below the average? The average rating will still be there, but you'll know who in particular appreciated a particular painting and placed an appropriate star rating as per their interest and who did not.
Thanks for taking the time to read and consider my request.
Hello Laura,
I hear your request. I'm not sure what the software can be tweaked to do at this point, as I am learning the system, but I do have a suggestion to solve this issue for you and protect the privacy of others.
It is possible that the star rating is anonymous for the protection of those that want to "comment" on a painting without being known. However, if you would like to let the artist know how much you are enjoying their work, I would suggest adding to your comments that you gave them the highest rating possible. They will be glad to know you enjoyed their work so much.

I'd like to say that I TOTALLY support the point that LauraG makes here.
As I have already commented on another thread here, I believe there is some unpleasant "gamesplaying" and misuse of the star-rating system currently, at this site.
Karyn, with respect, I think you are missing the point, as the issue is clearly that some works are being scored-down. I think that if we are to have a star-rating system, then it makes good sense that all who vote should be publically accountable for their votes.

I too agree,
I feel that i have been personally on the sharp end of these games that dcorc mentioned most works in the same gellerey page as my paintings have 4 or 5 stars when my ones not always but usually get between 1 and 2 and 1/2 thats poor to average that is not very nice when you have been working hard on something.

I'd also add, that as Laura has stated, one can see works where exactly the sort of thing she describes has happened - where its clear one voter has regarded a work as 5-star, and then other(s) have come along and clearly given 1-star votes to knock it down as quickly as possible. The majority of works seem to be 4 or 5 star, then there are few works with 3 stars (which is, after all supposed to be the average), and then a few works with 2 stars or less.
Yes! I also agree with Dave! It seems to be almost a cowardly act for someone to be able to click on a star and remain unknown!
My graceous, if you have an opinion, for goodness sake state it, butthere should be no secret votes.
Karyn, it would be much better to do away with the star system than to continue with this abuse.
Software is not needed to eliminate this star method.
Dave said it right, it is a silly act of gamesmanship!
Laura G: As for the ones I may or may not pleased with... (laughing), I don't want to hear any whining from the individuals who feel they've been "knocked down" by voters who don't like their art, and if there were a way to display the star votes, this would be an easier way to fix things - lol. I can certainly understand the anonymity some might prefer when it came to a poor star rating though... as they seem to be lashed out with endless hateful remarks and comments if anyone disagrees with them. ;-) No doubt I will take a "verbal beating" for the "whining" comment - lmao... It is not "whining" to see that people are being treated unfairly, nor is it "hateful" to protest that this is happening. I thought we were finally starting to see eye-to-eye on this - it is an issue of fairness - but it seems it is not so, alas. | Post Points: 20
Having a number of "votes" for the star ratings is a great idea. Again, not something that comes standard out-of-the-box with our system, but something that I'll add to our growing request list!
