Wow, very nice, Robin! Yes

The only thing I would have done differently was around the mouth & chin... I think I would have used the whiskers more than what you've done, as a compositional device. Being very selective, just using a couple of large curved lines/whiskers, working with that gorgeous light, to balance out all of that really nice contrast of light in the eyes.

The trick would be in painting the whiskers a little stronger than what you've done (especially where they sprout from the muzzle), without them taking over, & demanding attention... do you know what I mean?

Yes, I know exactly what you mean and it was a dilemma for me.  Didn't want the focus to be whiskers, wanted it to be eyes.  But maybe I was a little too conservative with them?

I agree, this is very nice.  I know from painting in acrylics it's very hard to make white on white stand out when it comes to whiskers.  What has worked for me is to run a darker line alongside the white of the whiskers in selected places.   It may be the photograph that is not allowing them to stand out as much for us as they may to you.  Good work.

Well, that may be.  I am a terrible photographer.  I signed up for a class but it got snowed out in our um...second or third blizzard?  (We're awaiting our fourth)

Robin,

Nice work. The focus is definitely on the eyes.

WOW :O This is beautiful. I like how you paint the furs and the eyes. Really 3D! I also painted a cat because I am practicing the furs. See here: http://rainbowpalette.wordpress.com/2012/05/05/practicing-furs/

This is beautiful. I really like it!
