Good work with the water soluble oil pastels.
Coo! very colorful! you was inspired in a bird?
Beautifully done Tom! I am glad to see that another pastelist enjoys working on black cardstock too. I also teach and produce scratchboard, and I picked up some black cardstock to use my white pencils on to “rough out” some ideas, and one day I decided to use some of my pastels on it - I have produced some interesting pieces.
I love your color blending on this one - nice!

Thanks all for looking and commenting.
Sometimes the hardest thing to do with black stock is photographing the finished piece.
Tom - What brand water soluable OPs did you use on this one? I just love the bright colors and one color fading into the next, the clean, crisp design and the overall feel of this one. I think it is my favorite of all of your abstracts I have seen.

C & C always welcomed and encouraged.
Tom - Alejandro asked if a bird was your inspiration for this one. I'm wondering if maybe it was a bird-of-paradise blossom.
I used Water soluble oil pastel (Cretacolor) and gel pen on 8.5x11" black card stock. The Cretacolor was used dry. The metalic silver gel pen was used as an under painting for the moon.

Holly,
When I do abstract paintings I usually have no Idea of what I'm going to create. They come out of my head usually reinforced by thoughts of nightmares from the previous night.
The nightmares started when I finished with the pain medication from my bout with cancer. They bothered me a lot when they first started and I considered getting professional help. Instead I had a long talk with my self. I thought if the operation, the heart attack and the doctors couldn't kill me why let the dreams do so. I still have the vivid nightmarish dreams but now I kind of enjoy them.
I dream a lot about space, the moon and things that go bump in the night.
You may want to check out some of my stuff in the abstract forum here and the Night Thing I just uploaded to the pastel forum. You may enjoy seeing Moon Swept in the abstract forum.
LOL - way to turn the nightmares around!!! Great job.

Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.
Since creating this I've had a lot of practice with the oil pastels. In the last few weeks I've been working on creating my own pastels. They will probably not be any less expensive than the artist grade store bought ones but will be in colors I can't find elsewhere.
I'm experimenting with the Pearl Ex pigments and various waxes and oils.
