The goals of this forum are to have fun, keep ourselves painting and meeting artistic challenges on a regular basis, and come together and encourage each other to do the same!

The All Media Photo Challenge is open to everyone—in any medium or style, with no regard to experience level or newness to painting or drawing. In fact, if you've never painted before, this is the perfect place for you to pick up a pencil or brush, and give it a try! If you are an experienced painter or draftsman, please join in and help us learn from your experience.

The structure of the photo challenge forum is simple. Every two to three weeks, a new photo challenge will be posted—if you have ideas, shout them out—with a target completion date. That target date is just a suggestion. If you miss a target date, that's always OK--post your work whenever it is ready. This is a light and stress-free way to learn and grow in our art. Join us!

Re: ALL MEDIA PHOTO CHALLENGE - DECEMBER 2012

Catherine, it's easy to indentify the objects in this later version. I like the snow-covered rocks on the edge of the water? The grasses look good, too.

Re: ALL MEDIA PHOTO CHALLENGE - DECEMBER 2012

Jen, some really nice highlights in your candle jar!

Catherine, both of your scenes turned out nicely - the contrast in the fist is super, and the 2nd one's added color makes it particularly special since it's kept nuetral to look natural. I think you did a good job with it.

Holly, Jen and Sam. I actually referred to the second photo Marsha posted. It shows more of the creek. I'm posting the sketch/watercolor I did of the creek with grasses and the tree and as you can see by the charcoal I strayed a bit and turned the creek into the path. It was just an exercise in options I guess.

I have used them (tho diff. brand), but I don't recall if I've used for an entire work - don't think so. Your descrip. was great, telling how they are not limiting; I'll keep in mind when I use them next. One thing I remember noticing is that they had a diff. sheen to them when I used the w/c pencils combined with regular w/c paints. Have you used both together and did you notice this? Could be my brand, if not. GREAT drwg. for your avatar...you did on site then? Impressive.

Marsha, I didn't think of a white surround (doubt this will be framed, but a mat would be quick/cheap), so I apprec. that sug.. It may help take the spooky feeling away. Maybe. Still trying to test things here, like the diff. between quick reply vs. reg. (but I see Quick lets me see behind it, so that's nice). I have chgd. my sig. and will make my pics bigger next time. I apprec. the help!

Re: ALL MEDIA PHOTO CHALLENGE - DECEMBER 2012

Alex, my you have been busy creating beautiful little miniatures. The owl is perfect and I love that you used blue on him. The snow and twigs look good too. Oh, am I glad that you came back to us. You have talent, girl!

Re: ALL MEDIA PHOTO CHALLENGE - DECEMBER 2012

ALEX I love the little Owl. he looks fluffy and warm under his feathers and stands out well from the snow and great background. Again you have done a super job and you are really tempting me to get out the WC pencils again.... kuddos gal....

Re: ALL MEDIA PHOTO CHALLENGE - DECEMBER 2012

Wow! I say my goodbyes and more company shows up....
