Betty, welcome to our group! This is a wonderful place to be to reacquaint yourself with oils and learn new techniques. My background is similar to yours in that my occassional classes over the years were at a local museum. Now I'm painting regularly as part of this group and it's both rewarding and educational. Lovely people here!

Yea, thanks Holly! Hang in there Geri we have a whole month. Happy New Year everyone may we all get arty and have a painting marathon all year. Welcome Betty glad you are joining us!, Fred you have been really busy over Christmas and I love them all. Those rocks are so much like Marsha's photo it is uncanny. Love all the Mars ones and it is good to see the still is still going. My camera is broken so am waiting for a new one which is due to come in on Thursday. Hope it takes as good ones as my old cannon. I have dropped and banged the old one on years of travels but it took a curious Curly One to break the door for the batteries. It held on for a while but gave up the ghost over Christmas :( I am hoping to get one more of Marsha's done but may not be able to send a photo until later. Thanks for all the great refs this month Marsha.

Geri has posted our new Challenge for January, but he got the dreaded "moderator needs to review" message. I have messaged Courtney but it IS New Year's Eve. - - if she happens to be watching her messages, it will go up - otherwise we may not be able to see it until Wednesday.

I have started the 2013 challengeChatter thread so let's all start of the new year with the new thread.

Fred, I knew exactly where you were coming from,,,, looking up from the bottom to the top of the cliff where the 1% exist and if They will live up there for ever and build a tower on the top to go even higher, but you have dragons........!!!!!

Welcome Betty. I too had quit painting back in the 70's. I didn't realize how much I had forgot and how much the techniques had changed. You will like it here the people are great and have helped me improve my art tremendously. I will be putting up the new year challenge some time before mid night and I hope you find something you just have to paint.

Hi all For those who are curious about the 1% I'm not sure how this story will evolve yet,I will say that I'm following the fiscal cliff debacle and all that it implies and how my political beliefs will influence the story

There will be a new thread started tonight or tomorrow with new reference photos. You can paint the photos exactly or just use them for a starting point and create whatever comes to mind using that theme. Looking forward to seeing your work in the new year.

You may not like my New Year resolution. Besides getting 30 pounds of weight off of this old body, I need to ween myself from the computer. So, my resolution is to spend less time on the computer (an addiction) and more time in the studio.

Hello

I am new to using Forums so hope I do this the correct way.... I am glad to join this group ! Thank you all for being here ! I am planning to return to oil painting after 40 years ( I painted with oils in the 70's ) ( in a class) Then about 2 years ago took acrylic classes at Michaels Art & Craft store. I really miss using oils !! so here I go ..... am learning all over again.

Sam Poker with buddies sounds like a ton of fun.....

Staying home with Stella sounds like a good time to me.

how we managed to make them like fire works is : when they were small we purposely stayed home on the 4th just to be with them. we took them out side during the fireworks and said hooray each time they went off, if we were holding them we would point their little faces up to see the fire activity. and tell them good boys.... they ended up luckily thinking it was just great fun.... lucky us. This year we have a new little girl dog and I have no idea how she will react... Tonight we will find out....

I want to wish all of you the best and may 2013 for this group remain as fun as it was in 2012...

My new year resolution is to take up pastels for 2013.... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Stella is scared to death of fireworks. If she hears even one go off in the neighborhood she's all upset. I usually don't do anything on New Year's Eve. I think I will spend this last day of the year reading, painting, eating leftover Italian from last nights outing to a resturant and probably watching a mystery movie on Netflix. :)
