Hi Dawn2 - Love your Little Daily Ditties but it seems you have been busy because there are no new posts. I, too, create Little Daily Ditties; it's fun, keeps me loose and from getting bogged down with larger projects. I also create animal portraits (dogs and cats). I'll have to get out the digital and get them posted here.

BTW, posting your dailies, whether oil or acrylics, is perfect here I think.

I mostly paint from pictures I have taken or others I see as well. Your right the animals just don't hold still long enough!

Well here is today’s daily, when all else fails make it up. It’s a long story why I have been painting heart but now I do them when I am not in the mood for anything else and or when I need to cover up a painting that did not work, LOL

Again I don’t know why the images look so bad not sure how to fix it but you get the idea

That’s great! Don’t but to much pressure on yourself that wont work. Even if you say I will paint one daily once a week. The idea is to start and finish a painting in one or two sittings but in one day. Even if its not done to your liking you just move on. I found that as time went on I was getting really good at it. Because of time I often put an hour limit on myself and it is amazing how some of those come out. I am posting the one from the other day, looks bad on my computer but I am not sure why. Hopefully tomorrow I can find someplace around here that sells the ink for my printer and when I print it out I will know if its ok. I am new here and there are not the same stores!!! I am going to head down to the studio in a bit hopefully I can get another daily and I am wanting to start a major painting as well. Its really hot and humid and I am so not used to this.

I will try and get into daily paintings when I can. Right now I work a full time job as a graphic designer and by the time I get home I only have a one or two hour block to squeeze in time for studio work. I am usually working on a larger project, but hopefully can start getting some smaller pieces done daily. You have inspired me Dawn with your daily paintings and I have wanted to do that for some time. It is easy to get bogged down on a large project and the daily idea will keep things fresh. So… I picked up a tarnished teapot from a friend’s moving sale and will begin with that piece and go from there.

well I was going to post a painting I did yesterday, I am actually pleased with it, maybe out of my funk!!! but what is coming up on the screen is far different than what I am scanning. I noticed it with the dog painting , does not look anything like the painting but I don’t know if its just my computer screen or something with the scanner. Will work on this

is there no one else with daily paintings?

I just buy the small canvas or clay boards, another thing to use is a heavy watercolor paper, you can cut them to any size before or after you paint and don’t have to feel so bad when you want to trash it.

I am hoping others will post some of there daily’s, remember they don’t have to be finished paintings just works that you did in a day, perhaps in one or two sittings.

Beautiful little works, Dawn! Yep, I'm another one who paints a lot of animals, & I must admit that much of my work is done from my photos. Like Barbara, I tend to do a lot of sketches of moving horses, but nothin' that's worth really keeping. More of an exercise than anything else.

The daily painting exercise is a great idea! One of my psychological problems (read: block ) is the thought of wasting materials. I think I've found an answer to this though, as I finally have some of those small canvas pads available, as well as 5" x 7" Claybord panels.

I usually gesso my own panels, but geez, by the time you get them all ready, the last thing you wanna do is use them for exercises.

Thanks Barbara you are too kind.

These are fun for me and I learn a lot. They are also very saleable and make awesome gifts for family and friends.

I am really rusty but forced myself into the studio yesterday and actually started two daily paintings, both got a coat of gesso when I was done, they were really bad!!!! I am going back down this afternoon so maybe today will be better.

By the way I love your work as well !

These are wonderful Dawn! I was going to start a “painting in a day thread” but you beat me to it - hooray! I think it is a great way to not only build your skills, but your collection as well. You do very nice work - and I can completely agree with your love of drawing horses and dogs. I used to sit for hours and sketch my horses in the pasture. Keep up the awesome work!
