Karyn

while I agree this is a better solution, may I offer a further suggestion at this point?

It may (or may not?) be difficult to implement, but rather than having a "nudity" icon show up as the thumbnail for all, would it be possible to have it set in the member's personal options? So that a member could set to show thumbnails, or set to show the "nudity" icon?

Hi Dave,

Actually, this will be set by the tagging that is set within an image, so the member does have control.  If the "nude" tag is used, then the icon is seen instead of the image.

Even though this does give the member control over the image, we will need to ask members to tag their images as "nude" if they do contain nudity.  Nudity would be defined as anything that one might normally have covered by a bathing suit.

The reason we need to ask members to apply the tag is to make the Gallery family friendly.  I'll be clarifying both "Tagging" and the need to mark the nude images in the "Help" center.

Thanks for asking

I'm suggesting, so that, for example - someone posts an image containing nudity, and tags it thus.

Now lets say I have an option set to "show thumbnails containing nudity", whereas Brightmeadow has that option set to "don't show nudity" - so I see thumbnails containing nude images, while Brightmeadow sees an icon. (The "icon" setting could be the default, so as to have the Gallery "family friendly")

Ah, Dave,

Thank you for the clarification.  I understand what you are saying.  I'm not sure that our platform is currently capable of this, but I can look into putting this on our wish list.  Makes a lot of sense.

Hi Karyn, I think what you've come up with is a terrific idea and a fair compromise.  I know if this site were more family friendly, it would please many parents (like me) and many other members.  New members would not have to make special arrangements to view or not to view nudes... If there's at least an icon in place that clearly marks the nude thumbnails, everyone would have the option to view or not to view by clicking on the icon... and they would not be "in our face".

This is exactly what we'd like to eventually do. That way the power is in the hands of each individual to choose what they want to see or not. But that's a tougher programming job than it sounds and won't happen for some time. The solution that Karyn outlined above -- chaning the icon for images flagged as "nude" -- is the best solution we can implement at this time.

Again, I know that not everyone will be happy no matter what solution we come up with, so thanks for your understanding!

In 70 years I have not seen an offensive nude in art. I suggest you start reading Auto Mechanics

Having been "exposed" (no pun intended) to live drawing right out of h.s., and it being a valuable part of my artistic growth since, I was recently surprised to find out that my older sister (10 years my senior) did not COMPLETE her college degree at CSULB in art because she refused to take a live drawing class.  She doesn't feel comfortable with it, and although I think that it has been invaluable to my growth and understanding of form and shadow, I have to respect that she never saw the value in it and never will.  I feel she's really missed out and if she had attended a live drawing session she would feel different.  That's okay, she's my sister and I love her.  And I'm pretty sure she loves me.  BUT I'm not going to show off my live drawings to her next Christmas!  After all, we're all different and the ways we find to express ourselves should be too!  Just because I love all kinds of art and personally am not offended in the least by nudes, I'd prefer not to see, for instance, art that shows a disrespect for my religion.  So, when I see it I just move past it  and fill my mind with something else as quickly as I can.  Sheesh! I did'nt mean to go on so long sorry.
