Is there anyone out there doing paintings that relate to kayaking? I'm an avid kayaker and paint from photos taken on my trips. Would love to hear what other people are doing!
Well, the paintings I get the best feedback on are from pictures taken on various kayaking trips. I think kayaking is really one of the best ways to connect to the landscapes and seascapes you are painting. Thank goodness for waterproof digital cameras.

So good to hear from another kayaker/artist. I was beginning to think I was the only one out there!! Where do you kayak:? We are on the Gulf Coast of Florida, and will spend Sunday thru Tuesday on Pavillion Key in the 10,000 Islands. Should be great pictures! Check out Steve Doherty's article about my work in the January issue, Amer. Artist.
I live in Virginia Beach but I make the occasional trip to FL and ME as well. My favorite spots are the Eastern Shore of Virginia and the Great Dismal Swamp. Both are still very remote compared to the rest of the mid-atlantic. Saving up for an Epic kayak right now. They are the very best for long distance trips in my opinion. It seems to me that the further I go, the better my reference photos are. Funny how that works, isn't it?
I'll be sure to keep an eye out for your work in that issue.
We have good friends who live in Virginia Beach. Beautiful spot. The Great Dsmal Swamp is a destination for me to do sometime. Okefenokee is great, too. We are doing the Suwanee River and two others over Easter. The clubs we belong to plan trips for almost every weekend, and they introduced us to some wonderful old Florida places that are great to paint. Epics are great--there are several in the club. We have wood boats, a Chesapeake Light and Pygmy Coho.
This weekend we go as far out in the 10,00 island as you can get, so the photos should be great. I have a Pentax WP80 and a Canon SX1IS. The Canon isn't waterproof, so it stays on dry land most of the time, but it will be on the boat this weekend to capture the wildlife.
Jan issue came out last week. do you have a website? Mine is www.jchupackart.com
Your work is beautiful. I particularly like the fauna gallery. For photography on the water, the Pentax optio w-20 hasn't let me down. I don't need a zoom as I prefer to paint broad simplistic landscapes.
