Here's a portrait of my mother done with HB to 8B graphite pencils, 6B charcoal sticks and 2B white Conte on grey mouse paper. The drawing was done from life and detail was added after by looking at pictures taken during the session.

Any critiques would be appreciated.

Nicely drawn!  The only critique I could make is that the left end of the subject's mouth needs to be clearer.  Otherwise, it makes the line of the lips appear to sag down to the left.   But it's a beautifully executed drawing.

I think that in the hair, there needs to be something that indicates more of the underlying global form of the head; perhaps stronger highlights.  Also, the light/shadow edge along the nose (dorsal subunit) is too sharp; I believe there should be a midtone between along that edge to slightly soften it.

My first thought at seeing this is the expression which is handled perfectly.  It has sensitivity and emotion, very alive.  Well done.

I don't think the mouth on the left side needs to be as well defined as the right side. (her left & right)

It's on the shadow side and I think the lack of defineition is the way it should be..

Just my 2 cents worth...
