Hello, I am new to the site. I am a art student, but currently deployed. My major is oil painting, I really like the traditional approach to painting of the old masters. The last semester before my deployment I focused on a question for my work. Where is the line between painting and drawing. This was for a drawing class. Now that Im deployed Im working mainly in my sketch book and reading about different artist. Currently Im reading about Thomas Benton.
Nice to see everyone on here.
Hello Peter and welcome to the forums! Do you work in oils? What are your favorite media? I have a favorite quote in my studio of Thomas Hart Benton: The life of an artist is the best in the world if you can get through the first forty years. He was so right, but sounds like you are laying down some good groundwork by studying the masters and working in your sketchbook. Looking forward to seeing your work and your sketches!

Hey Peter, and welcome to the site.
Looking forward to seeing some of your work, I am assuming you can upload them from your present location. And thanks for your service to your country!

I started with oils, but my studio is equiped for traditional oils so I use water mixable and acrylic. I really enjoy traditional oils though, especially working on the traditional ground. This year I have been working with dry medium but contructing it like a painting. So last drawing class I was in I worked with water color pencils, oil pastels and normal pastels. All the painting has really helped me on my way to find my mark with my drawings. I really do not want to stick to only one medium right now. It was fun working with oil pastels and using differnt oil mediums to make it almost like painting. I will keep on telling myself that, only 35 years to go!
Chris-
Im working on that, I have to find a place that I can downsize my image. Certain sites are blocked over here.
Welcome to the AA forum!
