Tiger Study

Here's one I just finished today...Tiger Study, 12 in x 16 in, oil on linen/panel. The reference is mine, taken at The Wildlife Sanctuary near Denver, Colorado. They rescue abused/neglected former exotic pets (mostly tigers, lions, and bears) and give them a safe retirement in very large enclosures (5 to 10 acres). I'm going to be doing a series of paintings to benefit the sanctuary, and this is the first.

Lucky for me, this one almost painted itself. This is the first time I've painted a tiger and I wanted to keep it loose, yet have enough detail to capture the viewer's attention. I intentionally played down the detail on most of the cat but played up the face area. Honestly, I was at first intimidated by all of those stripes but they turned out to be a non-issue. Note that the color in the photo is a little off - I'm going to have to work on getting a better photo.

Next comes a 16 in x 20 in tiger painting...I'm starting on that one next. C&C welcome on this one

Thanks for looking,

Nancy

Beautiful portrait Nancy! I think you captured him very well - I love the loose treatment of the background and his expression. He is not one of those typical overweight zoo cats either - I am looking forward to seeing the rest in the series and it sounds like a great idea to benefit the sanctuary.

Nancy this painting is so good, I love the posture of the tiger as he seems to be watching and about to pounce. Excellent

Thanks Barbara :)  Beacuse this sanctuary gives its animals a lot of room to run and play, they're a bit slimmer and more muscled than zoo cats. They are not as trim and buff as wild tigers though, so I took a few artistic liberties ;)

Thanks Sharon :) This guy was watching his mate rolling in the leaves about 20 ft away. She's next up to paint :)

That's a beautiful painting. The tiger looks so alive and loose.

I can't help but like that, as my last two works have been tigers! I need

rework some areas on tiger 2, but you can view them on---

http://www.myartspace.com/T.L.Anderson/           (I have not figured out

how you have posted them here!) I'm not all that great with my P.C.

                                        Take care,
