GOOD ARTISTS DO RESEARCH AND THAT EVERYDAY OF LEARNING SOMETHING NEW IS A GOOD HABIT. CARBIDE LAMPS FOR A STILL LIFE, TIKI MUGS FOR A STILL LIFE, WILL I DID LOOKED THEM UP. CARBIDE LAMPS WERE ON THE MINERS HATS AND TIKI MUGS ARE COLLECTED OR LETS THINK ABOUT CORKSCREW COLLECTORS, SHY AWAY FROM THE USUAL POTS OR CERAMIC BOWLS OR COPPER TEA KETTLES OR FRUITS OR THAT USUAL STILL LIFE SUBJECT MATTER, TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND DO THE RESEARCH ON YOUR SUBJECT MATTER OF YOUR CHOICE. IF YOU DONT HAVE THOSE COLLECTIBLES, WORK FROM PHOTOS PULLED OFF THE WEBSITES.

Hi Mari,
Good to see that you're posting in the forums; however your advice, questions, and comments, might be better received - and potentially viewed by more members - if posted into the proper category. For this particular subject I'd say that the "Still Life" forum would work best. Here's a link http://www.artistdaily.com/forums/163.aspx
Happy Posting,

Mari,
A word of advice: Please refrain from typing in all caps - it is harder to read. I would also not get in the habit of pulling photos from websites - these may be copyrighted images. There are a number of free image sites out there. Or better yet, set up a still-life and take your own photos or work from life. That way you will not run into copyright problems.
And while copper tea kettles may be overdone, they are still a great subject to practice on - metallic and reflective, and a nice challenge for beginners. I personally browse yard sales and find vases and interesting objects to draw for practically nothing. I have a hefty tote set up in my studio for these “props”. Thanks for posting the thread - some good thoughts there on “alternative” sources for still-lifes.
