Blue Vase and Silk is 30" x 30" oil on canvas. This painting took FOREVER to complete. I started it with a grisalle underpainting (a black and white painting) and then applied layers and layers of color to the vase, each layer having to dry before the next layer was applied. Many challenges in this painting. I had to paint the blue vase plus the fabric behind the vase and the reflections in the vase. And the silk! My favorite fabric. It seems to capture and reflect all the colors of the rainbow.I can't wait to do another painting like this

how do i paint silk like this can u help me
Megan, one of the reasons I don't teach workshops is because I don't know how to teach. All I can tell you is to paint what you see.
I paint in layers. I'm sure I painted the silk all one color then started adding lights and shadows and then glazed on the color.
I hope that helps a little
i love the pristine quality of the simple color scheme yet you do have a full range of colors in there! And it's unexpectedness - I mean is the vase falling into a hole? that's not a fault it's an unexpected set up and I really like that. After all, still lifes have been painted for several hundred years and to find a new way to say something is wonderful!
I love your work and I've joined your mailing list. thanks again for sharing
