Hello Catherine and Sam,

thank you both very much

Every pupil I taught had to learn how to write in italic  (Head Mistress insisted) so 15 minutes of every art lesson for two years (11 - 13 yrs.) was the drill. Left handed pupils had left hand knibs!  We did manage to make it fun most of the time.

Sarah, the writing finished off the camel card beautifully, great job. You can see you have lots of calligraphy practice!

Sarah, I agree your lettering is perfectly done. The red outline and dots add lots of nice interest and the beautiful stars set the night scene. Wonderful card.

Hi Sarah ~ It's nice to see you back!  Your "Hare in Snow"  has an interesting composition -zig zagging left to right and right to left again leading right to the hare!  And your purple snow shadows - I can dig it!   Your finished version of the camel is great too.  I like your additions of stars & tiny town & your lettering.  Beautiful Christmas card!Star

Hello All,

I am overwhelmed by all the kind words about my work...for me calligraphy isn't difficult...I taught myself because I loved the Book of Kells when I came across it when I was very young (I saw the original in Dublin about fifteen years ago) and discovered there was a rythm in the shapes and spacing.

Thanks again, all of you...

Decided this would be ok but as it was a very large oil I had to reduce the original and redo some of the details. The wild cat needs to have its head sharpened up!!!

Sarah, this is a wonderful example of the different colours of white. The snow shadows reflect the beautiful sky colours. The wild cat looks very robust and on the hunt ready to pounce and very natural in his setting. It is nice to see an oil painting and I love the colours.

Sarah, with your art experience, you have no trouble painting mostly white subjects.  The snow in the scene with the wild cat is very well done and in a few areas the combination of blue, violet, pink and yellow are superb.  I particularly like the drama in the winter sky and the mixture of evergreens and dried plant material.  The cat adds a lot of interest to this painting.  Very lovely and well done.

Sarah,   This is  very nice.  I especially like the snow covered  mountains.  The cat looks like he has his eye on  a meal.

Well, I tried using watercolor on my poinsettia and the water dissolved the ink of the print and mixed it with the paint creating a dull, gray mess.  I haven't tried the ink yet but I suspect it will do the same thing.  Of course, it is acrylic so one never knows.  Acrylic will go on anything so maybe I could apply a thin layer of workable fixative and then add ink.
