I was interested in going through the steps to join one of the watercolor societies here in Oregon. One thing I can't find is how strict are they with the painting submissions?
Most of my watercolors have permanent pen/ink in them. Is that considered mixed media?
Anyone have any experience with the watercolor societies?

Joining should not be a problem. In most cases all you need is a strong interest in watercolor to become a member.
Regarding your paintings, watercolor societies can vary some in their definition of "watermedia". In most cases, it boils down to "works in water based media on paper." The restrictions on types of media accepted for an exhibition is usually spelled out in the prospectus for the exhibit. You might also check the web sights of watercolor societies in your area. If they do not have a recent prosprectus on line, you may be able to submit a question on this.
