Alex ~ So now one can buy water-soluble graphite? What will they think of next, haha! I'll just stick to blending with home made stumps. Good burdock study - I like the touch of pink.
Comments and critiques are welcome.
Alex, your water soluble graphite experiment turned out lovely. I also like the pink w/c pencil touch. They seem to work well together. I am wondering about the characteristics of the graphite after you wet it, is it permanent or just the same once dry.
Bonnie C & C most welcome / appreciated
Hi Bonnie, the directions say the water soluble graphite is erasable when dry. I haven't tested that yet.
Comments and critiques are welcomed and appreciated.
It seems like it would be interesting to work with. It must go back to it's original characteristics. Thank you for the information Alex.
Alex, thank you for your wonderful words about my encaustic paintings.
For every artist the right tool, it seems. Your study with the water soluble graphite is very nice and the touch of pink with the WC pencil adds to it.
Nealey, thank you for your nice comment about my Bandit painting. I will tell the dog he is good looking, that will make his day.
C&C always welcome
Hello Alex......nice study of the burdock...where is the Dandelion (we say dandelion and burdock go together here!!!!)
the soluble graphite 'pencils' have been around a long time here...you can buy them in light/medium and heavy strengths. I have tried them and decided transparent black water colour was better for me as I draw with a brush....the penciils seem to suit Alex's style very well.

feel free to make constructive c/c...no digital alterations please
Nealy, Bonnie, Sarah and Claudia, thank you for your kind comments on my watersoluble graphite drawing. I do like shading things with a brush and getting "watercolor" looks, so this medium is interesting to me.
Quick Note: School started last week and I'm a bit behind. I'm substitute teaching 5th grade for the first part of this year - 6 week maternity leave. Sorry for not commenting or updating the gallery - I'll hopefully get caught up shortly.
Thank you Sarah for the information on the soluble graphite pencils.
Jen C & C's always welcome
Jen, thank you for your nice comment on the Bandit & Koi painting. Well, I have to admit I made up this story. The dog never got close to a pond with Koi. But I`m sure he would look just like this if he would. But isn't it fun that we as artist can make up stories like that! Sure there is Photshop in our days...
Sheila, wow, how do you manage this, teaching and doing the farm (your farm looks huge) and doing artwork and hosting the challenge?
Claudia your encaustic of Bandit and the koi is very nice. I love the way bandit and the koi seem to be looking each other over.
Alex I love the greys and pinks in your burdock painting.
C&Cs always welcome
Hi, these are my versions of two of this months challenges
