Hi everyone, I'm new here. Thought I'd share a piece I did as a birthday present for someone.

Even though I work in many mediums, drawing is still my favorite. I like to use at least 80lb. weight drawing paper and a variety of pencils, from B to begin to 6B for dark shadows, sometimes glazing in lit areas with an HB or even and H.

While this person was away on a business trip, I cajoled his fifteen year old son and their dog Clover to pose for a few shots in the sun. I had to work quickly because you know what little patience a young person has, not to mention the dog!

When I got home, I saw that the face of the boy in one photo was terrific but the dog was looking away. In another one, the dog looked great but the boy had a funny expression. So I cut out the head of the dog in the good one and pasted it into the photo where the boy looked good.

I worked on a 16x20 sheet of 80lb paper. It took me about 35 hours to complete. Luckily I started in time and was able to present it on the person's birthday. I was terrified that I would only get a "That's nice" kind of response. I got so much more. When he opened it tears immediately formed in his eyes and he blurted out "That's my boy!" We both cried. It was the best reaction I could ever hope for.

Hey, thank you! I had a great teacher for graphite drawings. Nick Raynalds is a master with pencil.

Your efforts work well and the person like it very much. It is real satisfaction for work. You use your mind to make the card.

I actually thought that was a black and white picture of him and the dog until I read that it was your drawing.

Wish I could draw close to how you do
