Last night I did a sketch of my elderly friend and today at art I painted this 6x6 oil of the sunflower. Another fund raiser for a good cause. the sketch looks enough like my friend for her to recognise it. Howard says it is not quite right and he is correct but it is close. I am not too happy with the sunflower. it has to be dry by next week so it felt rushed and I think it suffered as a result. All good practice and it was nice to get out of the house again.

Jen,  both are very good,  I love the sunflower,

watch the right ear lobe compared to the left....

Did she pose for you or was it from a Photograph?    Good job....

Jen,  you have every color under the sun on the seed pod of this sunflower.  I love it.  You also have nice free stokes on the petals.  That thick paint will take a while to dry.  I like this a lot.

Your lady friend's (note that I left out the word "elderly") portrait is very nice.  You did a great job of shaping her face with shadows.  I like how you did all of her features.  Marsha is right that there is something amiss on her left ear lob (our right).  Very nice drawing and portrait.

Marsha, Sammy thanks. Yes that earlobe is a little strange. I was going to look at it again but when I took the picture over to show her she wanted to keep it. I may take a pencil next visit and work it from life if her dog will keep off my lap! She is the sweetest, kindest lady with a lively sense of humor. She is 86 years, but unfortunately just developing Alsheimers. She took art with me until she got too frail. I drew the picture from a photo. Yes that crazy sunflower has lots of colours. I think it looks like a frantic spider!

Oh Fred....  I absolutely LOVE it,   My husband plays stand up bass,  this is wonderful....   And you have made them really groovin' with their body language.   Are they Still on Mars?  or is this a celebration of their return from their latest Adventure?   Again,  I love it.

Fred I see those bears know a thing or two about partying

Jen Love the sun flower very Van Goghish  The portrait is nice too.  I wont mention the ear.

Beautiful day here.  I should have been outside but I have had a sinus headache since the 12th and I just can't get rid of it.  Going to the DDS. tomorrow to see if It might be a tooth.  The Dr didn't help too much but the antibiotics probably kept it from getting worst.

Fred,  Here is one of thousands of pictures I have of one of my Big Bands for a reference for a future Bear Big Band.   If you need other poses just let me know.   This is Jimmy Wilkins, Count Basie style Big Band at my club the E-String.  you can look him up on the internet.  he will be 92 this year. I don't have him pictured in this one.  but he looks a bit like a bear.... lol  This was taken in October. and doesn't show the trumpet section or all of the trombones.   I set up the bands and sound, then run the sound.   My husband collects at the door and folks have to make reservations for this band.   I pack them in like sardines.   I always wanted to work in a sardine factory...

Fred, love the grooving bears! Looks like they are having a whale of a time. Great job. I wonder what the Marcians will think of all this!

This is what I do when I go to any place where I have to wait like Dr DDS Etc.  I am not saying it is great or evan good it just beats reading Magazines or texting like most people do.  You usualy dont get a chance to finish the picture before you or your model is called in.  You then can finish up the drawing later.  It is good practice.

I have not been discovered doing this yet.  This was at Jiffy lube..

Gerri, good for you. This is great practice and surprisingly people just don't seem to notice you doing it. I have done this at airports too. This is a great little sketch!
