Hello friends,
Pigments can be mixed with several different binding or emulsion agents. Since the pigments themselves have no binding properties, they must be mixed with a medium. They can be used with water, oil -- such as linseed or poppy -- or a chemical medium. Pigment names can be a bit confusing; not only are there poetic names for colors, but the manufacturer often names the painting pigments themselves as a marketing tool. Using eggs as a medium is an ancient practice that can be used at home. It is the easiest to make, does not crack or yellow, and cleans up with water and soap. No harsh chemicals or thinners are needed. Paint pigments can be used with other mediums as well.
Thanks and Regards
Astrid Green
