I'm new to this website and not sure if my painting posted in my last post.  Please review my first painting and provide instruction on how I can improve it.  I probably don't need to mention that I haven't had any lessons.  Any advise will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hello AWade! Congratulations and welcome to the world of Art!  I think for your first painting you did really good, especially with no formal training.

Here are some suggestions i would recommend.

1. figure out where your light source is coming from, is the sun shinning down from the right of the page or from the left of the page.

2. work from dark to light. Put the dark shadow of the tree in first then where ever the light would hit the tree is where  you apply your light colors. for example  the the first tree is lighter on the left side, and darker on the right side, the second tree is opposite.  the sun would be hitting them on the same side.  I hope this helps you in the future!

it you click on my website link i have a couple of beach scenes i did when i first started painting. Hopefully these will give you some ideas!

I am really proud of your eagerness to learn and i know that you have the potenial to be a great artist!

Happy Painting!

Thank you for taking the time to give me some helpful advise.  When I first posted this painting, the only feedback I heard was crickets..... :) I thought my painting was worse than I thought.  But you really gave me some great advise and I really appreciate your taking time to respond to to me.
