painting jewelry in portraits

I am looking for information on how to paint realistic looking pearls, gold, and jewels in my portraits. everytime i try googling it, it takes me to painting on jewelry!

Shasta.....try looking on the internet for that information......When I was painting a pearl necklace I found a how-to article there....took a bit of practice, but I nailed it down. Am sure you will find info for gold and silver too.

I have studied, John Singer Sargent as one of my favorite portrait artist. Read all you can about him, you wont be disappointed.You can learn alot from his techniques. Signman

I would suggest getting/borrowing some of the jewelry you want to paint, and paint it from life - that way you are an original, painting an original! Be sure to light it in the same way as the rest of the painting.

Be specific, try to change your search term, Google provides hundreds of results pertaining to every word you enter so even those not related to your needs will be included in the result.

imo it's all about lights and shadows... painting jewelry isn't that hard, you only have to be very careful about the highlights.
