I have been painting for just about 6 months and just finished this. The hands were the hardest but getting the light to work took some effort too.

Nice one! I do like this painting.

Hands are difficult..

One question, the dark shadow on her left arm, near her forehead. Should it be that dark? I ask this as my eye stops here when I look at the lady...

Hi all, thanks for the great comments.  I should say that as a beginner to art and painting, I used a painting by Fabian Perez as my inspiration and a basis for learning and understanding shadows and light.  This was my third painting and it took about 3 months of working 3 hours a week in a workshop to complete.

j.b2 - I see what you are talking about and can only say that in the actual painting the shadow doesn't appear as dark and there is more detail in that area so it isn't as distracting.

Hello Steve:  Congratulations on your finished piece.   To my eye, you have been every successful in making the head and arms the focal point by the lighting on and position of the arms and the reflected light on the face and hair.  I like the pose and the feeling of the painting a lot.  The hands,  (being a little picky) - when I look at my hands in the same positions my index and middle fingers are of different lengths on both hand positions, your reference would tell whether this a valid point or not - but having said that I think you have successfully portrayed the hands is a dancing pose that appears fluid and realistic.. Nice work.

Glad to hear that Steve.

Too bad we all can't see the paintings in person as the photos can be decieving at times!!!
