Hi Martha, I can understand your frustration. I also have a hard time with painting a rose. A suggestgion would be to check out the videos on this site and see if there is one on painting a rose. Another site would be you tube. Just put in your search "you tube how to paint a rose", this will bring up several videos for you to view on painting a rose. Another site would be: http://www.artinstructionblog.com/how-to-paint-a-rose-in-watercolor-step-by-step-by-doris-joa . I also view videos on www.artistnetwork.tv for art instruction. Flowers are also my favorite subject to paint. Wishing you success in your endeavor to paint a rose. Keep on painting!!!!
Hi Martha.
First off, I would suggest watching some videos about painting in oils. You can find all kinds of Videos at the top of this page, in the blue banner.
The secret to painting roses, or any subject, is in "how" to see it before you paint it.
Books & videos are a great start, but if you are able, it would be a great idea to take a course in oil painting at a local arts community, or a community college, or an artist's workshop.
Good luck, & happy painting!

The books and DVD's by Arleta Pech come to mind. Have you looked online at the DVD's offered by Dick Blick, Jerry's Artarama, Cheap Joe's, and ASW, or Creative Catalyst Production? They all have websites.
Thank you all for advice.
