I made some corrections to my self portrait which I posted recently. See what you think now.
Looks really good. I remember seeing your first one. Good job !
Thank you so much for taking a look and for the nice comment.
Well, I'm completely new to this so bear with me. First, there's absolutely no doubt that you know how to draw. You nailed your likeness dead on! I think you're working from a photo? Is it the one posted on your site? It must be because it looks exactly the same. There are a lot of things that you have to watch for when you work from a photograph but the most important thing is COLOR DISTORTIONS.
A camera is never going to see what your natural eye can see. It will definitely lie to you, especially about the temperatures of certain tones and tints. When I'm forced to work from a photo, I try to work as small as possible and I avoid doing a "light and shadow" piece in favor or a "tonal" painting for just this reason. You're just not going to get the truth about the colors of your subject from a photo.
Looking at the deepest tones in your painting I'm thinking that I should ask what you're mixing to get those.
I will invite you to write to me using my email address *ruggieroart@yahoo.com" and I will be happy to give you some guidance beyond what you have received here.
Regards
Jerry
I think it looks great!
Keep up the good work!
